“Painting gives me a sense of peace and wholeness, the same sense I experience when under water with the light shining through from above.” Artist Bobbi Kilty
Williamstown Township is excited to announce that award winning artist Bobbi Kilty will return to join the 12th Annual Artists’ Fine Art Sale & Studio Tour May 5th and 6th, 2023. Bobbi Kilty is a local artist who draws inspiration from nature and ecology. Using a wide variety of mediums, she celebrates the environment around her, whether it be in her own backyard in Williamston, Japan, or Europe.
Bobbi enjoys working with new materials and techniques, experimenting and exploring possibilities within the realm of art. She has recently been trying new capabilities of house paint, spackle, diazo paper, cheese cloth, comic book imagery, pigmented inks, Fosshape fabric, and Zen brushwork on rice paper. The latter fosters coordination of mind, body and brush while in a “no-mind” state and relates strongly to the art of dance. She is a painter in encaustic and combined media, which uses a durable and versatile wax-based paint that can be melted down and spread over a surface.
Born in Tampa, Florida, Bobbi has been drawing since the age of 5. As a child she lived in Pennsylvania, Texas, Wisconsin and Illinois. As an undergraduate in the Art Department at Northwestern University, she majored first in visual arts and then shifted emphasis to Interior Design to maximize potential in the work place. After completing an M.F.A. degree at UCLA, she began her teaching career at Washington State University. In 1973 she studied Sumie (contemporary Japanese brush painting) at Osaka University, Japan. Courses she has taught include architectural illustration, perspective and mixed media rendering, color theory, barrier free design and even ergonomics. While at Michigan State University, she drew and painted her way from Ireland to Italy as she led students in the Interior Design Study Abroad program. After serving four years as the MSU Interior Design Program Director, she is now living the dream!
Please join Bobbi Kilty and 18 other artists in Williamstown Township for the 12th Annual Artists’ Fine Art Sale & Studio Tour, May 5th from 5-9 PM and Saturday, May 6th from 10 AM-5 PM.
